A man was rescued Sunday afternoon in Steamboat, after he was stranded during a float trip on the Yampa River. Witnesses called authorities after they saw the man, who was not wearing a life jacket, hanging on a log near the “D-hole” area of the river. When they arrived on the scene, Steamboat Fire and Rescue were able to get a throw bag out to the man and pull him to shore. The man said that he and a friend had been floating the river on a double inner tube when he fell off. The man was swept away by the current and was forced to grab hold of the log for safety. After being removed from the river he was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center suffering from hypothermia. Those using the river should be aware that The Yampa is flowing quickly due to the spring run off, so life jackets should be worn at all times.
