Man Dies In Mining Accident

A worker died at the Bridger mine, 25 miles northeast of Rock Springs yesterday, after a slab of coal fell on him. According to Bridger and Rocky Mountain Power officials Jaime Olivas was moving mining equipment around 4 in the afternoon, when the slab came loose and struck him. Olivas was conscious and talking when he was brought from the mine after the accident, but he died while being taken by ambulance to the hospital. A statement from Cindy Crane, Rocky Mountain Power CEO, said the company is cooperating with the Wyoming State Mine Inspector’s Office and the Mine Safety and Health Administration to determine the factors that caused the accident.
