Loud Noises May Be Heard During Vulture Removal

Craig officials will again use loud sound making devices in an attempt to relocate the turkey vultures that have taken roost in downtown Craig. Craig Police and members of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife will be using shotguns to fire the sound making devices just before dark throughout the spring and summer. When this work was taking place last year, numerous community members reported hearing “shots fired”. If you hear loud noises that sound like fireworks or gunshots coming from the center of Craig in the evening during the spring and summer, it is in all likelihood police trying to remove the birds. This method of removal must be used as the vultures are protected under the Migratory Birds Act.
