Lane closures will start next week for construction on the western portion of Highway 40 in Steamboat. During the project, crews will work to resurface the road, construct approximately 1,800 feet of new sidewalks and will conduct shoulder and drainage improvement in the area. They will also add wheelchair accessibility to the four corners of the intersection of Elk River Road and Highway 40. While the construction is taking place, drivers should expect daytime lane closures on both sides of the highway, with the speed being reduced to 25 mph. Significant impacts to traffic are expected to begin when paving crews begin resurfacing operations in June and July. For additional information on the project call 819-3558.
