In election results that we can report right now…

  • Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who is a Democrat, has defeated Republican Senator Cory Gardner to be our new U.S. Senator.
  • Republican Lauren Boebert of Rifle edged out Diane Mitsch Bush of Steamboat Springs for the Congressional Representative in District 3.

Moffat County voters voted to agree to lengthening the term for the Moffat County Sheriff to a maximum of three consecutive terms.

The Stage One Fire Restrictions on Open Fires and Burns in Moffat County are scheduled to be rescinded today. The Moffat County Commissioners are meeting with Fire Chief KC Hume. The resolution says the Moffat County Sheriff and his Fire Management Officer have determined that the weather conditions and recent precipitation have reduced the threat of fire in the unincorporated areas of Moffat County to an acceptable level of risk. There should be no more fire restrictions as of Friday.

Formal charges have been filed against 68-year-old Christopher Linsmayer. He is the man accused of setting fire to 12 slash piles on his property in Kremmling last week, then leaving them unattended. Grand County is still under Stage II Fire Restrictions. The Grand County District Attorney’s office has charged Linsmayer with 12 counts of felony fourth degree arson and 12 counts of misdemeanor fourth degree arson. Linsmayer is next in court on Dec. 15.

Routt County is reporting 22 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week with 41 cases in two weeks, for a total of 234 since the pandemic began. The state’s website is reporting 239 cases in Routt County.

Homecoming Week continues in Hayden at the new school there. Today’s dress-up theme is Red, White, and Blue. The Homecoming Parade is at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Hayden. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new school is at 1 p.m. Friday, with the football game at 7 p.m.
