The donation of the Yampa Building to Memorial Regional Health is expected to happen at the next meeting of the Moffat County School District Board. If that happens, the building would be renovated to be used as a for-profit addiction treatment facility. It’s a two-part agreement. The property would be given over for a nominal fee. Then Memorial Regional Health would give the district a 33 percent discount for the next three years of contracted registered nurse and health technician services. The Yampa Building was built back in 1925. The next meeting for the Board of Education is at 4 p.m. next Thursday, June 20. It’s in the library room at CNCC.
The city of Craig is one of only three groups in Colorado to receive a planning and assistance grant. It came from the United States Department of Agriculture last week. The Craig Press reports that Craig and Moffat County had applied for assistance through the USDA’s Rural Economic Development Innovation program, and they’re getting it. The grant will be used to help complete a broadband build-out, which means developing high-speed connectivity. It will also help develop workforce housing and housing for seniors living independently.
A man from Granby has been sentenced for having an illegal marijuana grow operation. 44-year-old Matthew Niedermeyer will serve nine months. He was also charged with tax evasion of which he’ll be on supervised probation for five years and have to serve 200 hours of community service. Plus, Niedermeyer has to pay back about $83,495.21 in restitution.
The EPA has awarded $200K to support the cleanup and redevelopment of a vacant school property in the town of Dinosaur. Brownfields grant will remove environmental contaminants and enable the development of a new community center. It’s about nine acres that has a 15,000-square foot school building on the property, which was built in 1962. It’s been vacant for more than ten years.

A forum on the West Steamboat Neighborhood annexation question is tonight. It is hosted by the Routt County Democrats. Members of the Let’s Vote Steamboat committee and the Yes to Locals Housing committee will both be there. The forum starts at 5:30 at Sake2U at 609 Yampa Street.
