Yampa Valley Electric has wrapped up its food and funds drive. It’s a campaign with employees and the YVEA board, to give back to the community. Team members contributed $4,437 dollars to help members in need pay their electric bills. The money raised was distributed to the Community Budget Center, and LOVE, Inc in Craig, and also LiftUp of Routt County. Food that was collected filled two YVEA truck beds. It was passed out to area food banks from Routt County to Baggs, Wyoming.

More good deeds… This one from the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation. Lizbeth Magallanes of Craig was given a $2000 REACH Educational Grant through the Foundation. She is a shift supervisor at the KFC in Craig. She will use the money for books and fees as she starts her second semester at Colorado Northwestern Community College.

Two special awards were given out at the annual holiday celebration at the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. Those honored with the Life Saving Award were Rangely Fire Chief Andy Shaffer and Assistant Fire Chief Jasper Whinston. It’s because of their outstanding efforts on June 14 last summer, when a three-and-a-half year old child stopped breathing. They got there first, did CPR and helped get the child to the hospital, where there was a full recovery.
