It’s the 28th year for the Grand Old West Days, which starts today. Word from organizers is that the Grand Old West Days Parade has been canceled. It was supposed to be this Saturday afternoon. Event organizer Melody Villard says the Downtown Business Association didn’t file the papers with the city in time for the city to prepare for the parade so it had to be canceled.

The Boys, Broncs & Barrels, and Bulls is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the Downtown Craig Kids Junior Rodeo Festival at Alice Pleasant Park at 4 p.m. and the concert that night.

Sunday is Cowboy Church and the Yampa Valley Antique Power Club tractor pull, at Fourth and Ranney Streets at 10. The Western Dance is at the Pavilion Sunday night.

Also, Saturday is graduation for the Class of 2018 at Moffat County High School. Park in the K-Mart parking lot to take a shuttle to the high school. And good luck to all of the graduates.

Moffat County Board of County Commissioners are meeting this morning. They’ll be considering requests to hire five new employees, some full-time and some part-time. The commissioners will also discuss an employee wellness program.

Dinosaur National Monument makes a big impact. A new study from the National Park service shows over 315-thousand visitors to the park. They spent $18,479,400  in communities near the park. That spending supported 231 jobs in the local area.

A woman hit a bear on I-70 in Jefferson County Wednesday morning. She was taken to the hospital. The bear was killed.

Police officers in Steamboat were called to a bear downtown at 5th and Lincoln. But nothing happened. They said it wasn’t being a bad bear.

Later that afternoon, officers were called to a report of a stolen car at Steamboat Ski Area. A dealership in Denver used GPS to track the car to the ski area. Police found the car was a BMW that the ski area has on display for promotional purposes. The dealership had made a clerical error, and the BMW was not the stolen car they were looking for.

A new brewery has opened in Frisco. It’s the HighSide Brewery, which is a rafting term, meaning the act of using body weight to keep a raft from capsizing. There are now eight operating breweries in Summit County.

The weather in Northwest Colorado today and tomorrow and through the weekend will be sunny. Temperatures today will be in the upper 70s, and then it warms up to the mid-80s Friday and Saturday.

The Moffat County Fairgrounds will be busy today through this Monday. Craig is hosting the Colorado State High School and Junior High Rodeo Association Finals at the local fairgrounds on E. Victory Way. It’s all part of the Grand Old West Days in Craig. Melody Villard is the event organizer.

177 high school and junior high school competitors will be in Craig for the competition. And you can watch it all at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
