The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners and the Craig City Council met Wednesday to discuss how to increase county revenues. A committee of residents on the Moffat County Revenue Task Force also met. They’re former elected officials and local business owners. During the discussion, members of the city and county groups agreed they need to better convey their messages to the public. Others in the room asked to involve more local elected officials, including the county assessor and sheriff. Local officials are also concerned that the population of Craig and Moffat County is getting older. About 35 percent of the county is older than 50. Another concern is when young people grow up in the community and then go to college and don’t come back.

The person who died in the accident on Highway 40 north of Kremmling Wednesday was 42-year-old Long Tai Lam, who has addresses in Aurora and Steamboat Springs. Colorado State Patrol reports that he was headed east on Highway 40 but in the westbound lane, when he hit the tractor trailer head-on. The accident started a grass fire. The highway was closed in both directions for most of the afternoon.

You don’t need a license to go fishing this weekend. It’s the annual free fishing weekend, from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Anglers of all ages can enjoy a weekend on the water for free, no license required. All other regulations and restrictions remain in place over this weekend.

The first volunteer day of the summer for MOCO Trails is Saturday, which is National Trails Day. Volunteers meet at the Cedar Mountain parking area at 9, and work until noon tomorrow to help get the trails ready for hikers and bikers. Bring work gloves, boots, eye protection, and sunscreen. MOCO Trails is hosting a BBQ afterwards in the picnic area at Cedar Mountain. Workers in Routt County are working on the Rotary/Ridge Trailhead on Cow Creek Road tomorrow at the same time.

In Avon, a woman was stabbed Thursday morning, when jogging along the Eagle Valley Trail near the Westin. The suspect is about 5’2” tall, fair-skinned with black curly hair, and probably between 15 and 20 years old. Police want to find the man who did it.

Summer reading programs have started for kids and adults, at the Moffat County Library. That is at each of the branches in Craig, Maybell, and Dinosaur. Ask the library for a reading log, and keep track of how much you read, to win prizes at the end of the summer.

The weather in Northwest Colorado today will be mostly sunny, with a bit of a breeze. Look for gusty winds this afternoon. The high today will be 74 with the low down to 32 degrees. Skies will be clear tonight with plenty of sunshine on Saturday, but cloudy skies on Sunday. Temperatures throughout the weekend will be in the upper 70s.

The Denver Broncos had a voluntary practice session Thursday. Peyton Manning decided to pay the team a visit. The former quarterback hopped right into the huddle to talk to the players about what it means to be a pro football player.

Saturday is a Men’s Doubles Golf Tournament at Yampa Valley Golf Course.
