The Great Divide Fire is contained. It burned more than 5,000 acres. One house was destroyed but no one was hurt. The fire was about 32 miles northwest of Craig, near Moffat County Roads 7 and 5.

 A wildfire burned about 15 acres south of Hayden late Friday. The Hayden Gulch Fire is mostly on Bureau of Land Management land. The fire has been burning in brush and grass.

 A woman from Dinosaur was found dead Saturday morning, in a single-vehicle accident along Harpers Corner Road in Dinosaur National Monument. She was 18, from Dinosaur, and her name hasn’t been released yet.

 The 4th of July Parade and Picnic is Wednesday. The 8th annual VFW 4th of July parade starts at Veteran’s Memorial Park. All floats are welcome. Line-up is at ten and the parade starts at 11 a.m. After the parade is the community picnic with games for the kids, a money pit, and prizes. Bring your favorite dessert to share.

 Steamboat’s 4th of July parade is at 10 in the morning Wednesday. Yampa has a parade at 1 p.m.

 Queens representing the Moffat County Fair will be back this year. Fair royalty hasn’t happened since the end of 2014, with the Moffat County Fair Board decided to break the 60-year tradition of having fair royalty. Instead, they had a co-ed ambassador program with 4-H. Now, the fair royalty program is back again, with Matalinn “Mati” Frederickson the 2018 Senior Fair Queen. She went through the royalty application and interview process in the spring. A panel of three judges picked a pair of young women from three age groups. The senior Queen Attendant is Sydnie Harding. The Intermediate Queen and attendants are Aftyn Kawcak and Kassaundra “Kassy” Haefs. The Junior Queen and Attendants are Jolene Rhyne and Arianna Anderson.

About $5,000 worth of scholarships have been passed out to graduates from the 2018 Class of Moffat County High School. The awards come courtesy of the Northwest Colorado Chapter of Parrotheads. The group provides multiple educational opportunities and community improvement projects in Craig and Moffat County through local fundraising efforts. It’s all part of the international network of Parrot Heads in Paradise clubs.

 The cost to get a driver’s license in Colorado has gone up one dollar, as of today. It is now $28 to get a Colorado Driver’s License. It’s to help offset the cost of providing driver services.

The weather in northwest Colorado today should be sunny and warm with a high of 90 degrees. The temperature will stay the same for the next couple of days under mostly sunny skies.

 NBA superstar LeBron James has agreed to a four-year, $154 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s leaving Cleveland.

The fall schedule for Moffat County High School football has been released. The first game for the varsity team is at home, on Friday, Aug. 31. The Bulldogs travel down highway 40 to Steamboat Springs to play the Sailors on Sept. 7. Jamie Nelson is the new head coach. Early morning sessions for the team start July 9th through 11th. Then the team will head to Goshen County Camp in Torrington, Wyoming. The team will also have weight room and conditioning training throughout the summer. Official practices start Aug. 6.

 A couple of more league changes. The Bulldogs are still in the 2A Western Slope League, along with Aspen, Basalt, and Coal Ridge. They’ll be joined this year by Delta and Rifle. Steamboat moves back to 3A. Roaring Fork is temporarily dropping football as a varsity sport after going 0-9 last season. One of those losses was to the Craig team by a score of 61-6.
