The Yampa Valley Pregnancy & Family Center needs car seats, as they have a waiting list for both infant and toddler car seats. The car seats need to have only had one owner, be less than eight years old, and never been in an accident. They’ll also take money, so they can buy new ones. Call 970-824-5204, or drop off car seats at 538 Breeze Street, from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

David Bernhardt who grew up in Rifle, has been nominated to lead the US. Department of the Interior. President Trump announced on Twitter Monday that he will nominate Bernhardt, who will then go through the confirmation process in the Senate. Bernhardt has been serving as interim director since former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke resigned in December. Colorado’s Republican U.S. Senator Cory Gardner says Bernhardt knows how important public lands are to our state, and understands the issues facing Coloradans every day.

About 2,000 books from Northwest Colorado are headed to libraries in Paradise, Calif. That’s where a wildfire destroyed two elementary schools and the library in November. Marcia and Steve Kaufman of Steamboat started putting together books at home, and then gathering books from throughout the community. Books are being collected through Feb. 14. You can drop them off at either elementary school in Steamboat, or at North Routt Community Charter School. The Kaufmans will either drive or mail the books to California.

A large wild cat apparently attacked a trail runner at Horsetooth Mountain Park near Fort Collins Monday. The man was attacked from behind, but he was able to fight off the cat and hike out to safety. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is investigating.

The Moffat County Tourism Association meets at 2 p.m. tomorrow, at the Bank of Colorado. On the agenda is a marketing plan, visitor center initiative, and planning for events. They’ll discuss marketing plans for the Grand Junction Outdoor Expo this Saturday, and the 2019 Adventure Travel Show in Denver. Also tomorrow afternoon, the Colorado Rural Academy for Tourism will meet to finalize events for Experience Colorado’s Great Northwest Summer Kickoff May 4-10. Both groups will discuss the John Wesley Powell 150th anniversary celebration set for June 17 in Echo Park.
