A wildfire is burning about 16 miles southwest of Hayden. It’s the Indian Run fire, and at last check, it had burned 165 acres, with no containment. The fire is near Pagoda Peak in southwest Routt County, close to the Moffat County border. It’s burning on private and Bureau of Land Management land. Seventy firefighters from local fire protection districts and federal agencies are fighting the fire. No structures are at risk right now. The fire started Saturday night, after some lightning was seen in the area.

Two cars crashed at Fourth and Ranney streets in Craig Monday afternoon. A pickup truck T-boned a Honda in the intersection. Both airbags deployed on the Honda. Craig Police, Fire/Rescue, and Memorial Regional Health came to help the drivers, and with traffic control.

A “Stand for our Land” rally is this Friday. It coincides with a visit to the Yampa Valley from newly-appointed Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. He is in Steamboat for the 11th Annual Freedom Conference and Film Festival, hosted by the Steamboat Institute. Local organizers of the rally plan to highlight the value that Steamboat residents place on public lands. The rally is at 5:30 Friday evening, on the sidewalk at the Routt County Courthouse.

Another bear has attacked a person in Aspen. It’s the third incident this year. The bear was in an open dumpster in a downtown alley in Aspen, and the restaurant owner tried to scare the bear away, and that’s when the bear bit him in the leg. Colorado Parks and Wildlife are searching for the bear and will put it down when found.

August is Colorado Proud month, which promotes food and agricultural products grown, raised, or made in Colorado. Wendy White is the spokesperson for Colorado Proud, and she recently stopped in Moffat County.

Colorado Proud month is a program within the Colorado Department of Agriculture. The month-long awareness of local produce and agriculture was declared by Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

Today is the first day of school in Steamboat Springs, the Hayden School District, and Soroco School district in Oak Creek. The first day of school in Moffat County is Aug. 26, which is next Monday.
