Full-time equivalent enrollment numbers are up 7 percent at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig. Ron Slinger is the interim vice president and he says it is directly related to the offer of free tuition. Full-time enrollment on the Rangely campus is down 3.1 percent from the year before.

In a quick fire update…

The Boone Draw Fire near Maybell, and 50 miles west of Craig is nearly contained at 94 percent, after having burned 8,610 acres.

The Silver Creek fire northwest of Kremmling has grown, and has now burned 13,238 acres as of last night. It’s 35 percent contained and there are 620 people working that fire, and camping along Highway 40, north of Kremmling.

The Ryan Fire in North Routt County has burned 2,594 acres in the Routt and Medicine Bow National Forests.

Denny Ying is riding his bike to Yampa today, and then he’ll head to Kremmling, and across all of Colorado. Denny is riding his bike across the United States, from San Francisco to Boston, to help raise awareness about suicide. He stopped in Craig for the night. His Facebook page is called TeamRidesForHope.

September is National Library Card month. The Moffat County Library has branches in Craig, Maybell, and Dinosaur.

Memorial Regional Health and SCL Health/St. Mary’s are making a big announcement tomorrow. The two health care organizations have a new Care Affiliate agreement. They’re collaborating to form a new health care model. The news conference is at 11 a.m. Friday at the hospital in Craig.

A memorial service for former State Champion wrestler, longtime coach, and Hayden resident Chad Jones is at 10:30 Friday morning. It’s in the Hayden High School gymnasium. A potluck will be afterwards in Exhibit Hall at the Routt County Fairgrounds. Then there is a fundraiser at 3:30 Friday afternoon at Yampa Valley Brewing Company, to raise money for Jones’ children. The local wrestling coach died in his home Monday.

In Sports…

JP Price scored a touchdown during the 8th grade football game Tuesday, when Craig Middle School beat Steamboat, 40-32. JP is in a wheelchair, as he has muscular dystrophy. The 13-year-old took a pass from his brother, and headed straight for the goal line. Then the crowd went crazy. Middle School head coach Tony Maneotis then told JP that he gets to meet the Denver Broncos, through Fox 31 and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The 7th graders also beat Steamboat, 34-12. The middle school teams play Saturday in Rifle.

The club champs for the summer at Yampa Valley Golf Course are Dan Brown and Lani Cleverly.

The Moffat County High School and Craig Middle School Cross Country teams are competing in Saratoga, Wyoming tomorrow at 1 p.m .

Then at 3 p.m., the CNCC men’s soccer team plays the college of Southern Nevada. That game is away.

The Moffat County Bulldogs football team has a game this weekend. They’re hosting Ridge View Academy at 11 on Saturday.
