The number of deaths in Routt County from the COVID-19 virus has gone up to six. The state has changed the way a death is classified. A person who died at Casey’s Pond in February was identified through contact tracing and that person’s death is now being attributed to the virus. There are 64 positive cases in Routt County; seven are still active. 1,262 tests have been administered.

Again, no new cases in Moffat County after the six that were confirmed. 341 tests have now been administered. Testing is available for Moffat and Routt County residents every Wednesday and Saturday in Steamboat Springs, at the rodeo grounds at Howelsen Hill. Make an appointment with the public health office first.

Hayden voters have approved changes to the budget for the fire department. It was a special election in West Routt County. It means the fire district can maintain current mill levy rates even if residential assessment rates continue to decline. Voters did not approve a 2-mill property tax to support the fire station in the West Routt Fire Protection District. The vote was 224 in favor and 226 against.

A new group in South Routt County is organizing a food drive. The South Routt Initiative will benefit Lift Up in South Routt County. It’s from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday on Main Street in Oak Creek. All foods are being accepted as well as pet food, baby products, hygiene items and cleaning supplies. Plus, gift certificates from businesses and restaurants in Oak Creek, Phippsburg, and Yampa are also welcomed.

Some of Moffat County’s top student athletes will be recognized tonight. An athletic awards banquet with pre-taped interviews will be posted at 7 p.m. tonight on the Moffat County Proud Facebook page. The five Dude Dent award nominees will be featured. The top award will go to the best male and female active scholars for the year. Nominees for Outstanding Female Athlete are Jenna Timmer, Stephanie Swindler, and Eliana Mack. The two males up for the Dude Dent trophy are Dagan White and Dario Alexander. Link:
