KRAI News for Thursday, June 18, 2020

On about May 1, someone broke into a locked detached garage near Maybell in Moffat County. They stole a gray 2015 Can-Am ATV. A kids camo four-wheeler was also stolen. The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that the Can-Am has been found. The police department in Brighton recovered it. They’re still looking for the 4-wheeler.

Also in Maybell, the Rodeo Club there has restored the town’s outdoor rodeo arena. They received approval from the Moffat County Board of County Commissioners, and a grant from the Women of Moffat County to help with renovations and rejuvenation. The Craig Press reports that the kids are competing in Gymkhana at $5 per event. Gymkhana will continue at the Maybell Rodeo Arena on seven more Wednesday nights this summer. They also hope to bring back the Little Britches Rodeo.

VFW members in Craig got together this week to properly retire some cotton flags, at the local VFW post. The ashes of the flags were then buried on Tuesday in the sacred ground next to the WWII statue between City Park and the VFW Hall.

Keep those masks on if you’re in Routt County. You’ll need to be wearing them out in public, and in stores through July 31. The local Board of Health and Routt County Commissioners extended the mask-wearing ordinance through the end of July, in a unanimous vote. Commissioner Tim Corrigan says he doesn’t like wearing a mask and he doesn’t know anyone who does, but it’s an easy thing to do.

Commissioners have been asked to let residents of smaller Routt County communities, like Yampa, Oak Creek, and Hayden not have to wear a mask. Commissioners don’t think that’s a good idea, on the advice of Public Health officer Dr. Brian Harrington.

Commissioners DID make an allowance for exercise. It’s OK to take that mask off if you are exercising at a facility.

Triple Crown baseball teams will not be coming back to Northwest Colorado this summer. Steamboat Springs City Council made the decision at their meeting this week. Council member Robin Crossan says council was challenged to balance the physical health of the community and the economics of the city. She says not having Triple Crown this summer will be a big economic impact.

Crossan says a group is being formed to work with Triple Crown on exploring a new contract for next summer, and future years.
