Moffat County School District is having a special board meeting tonight. The discussion includes the proposed 2020 bond on the ballot, but the main part of the meeting will be to discuss the reopening of schools. The school board is scheduled to approve the reopening plan. The meeting starts at 6:30 tonight. It’s in the admin building at 600 Texas Ave. Seating is limited. One resident of The Haven Assisted Living Facility in Hayden has died, of probable COVID-19. Lab tests are pending. Seven people have tested positive at The Haven. Four are residents and three are employees. Two of those employees are from Moffat County.

Moffat County’s COVID-19 Monitoring Dashboard shows 24 confirmed cases right now, with one active case, 22 have recovered, and there has been one death. The number of people tested in Moffat County is at 1,485.

Routt County also has two new community cases of COVID-19 today. One is a man in his 50s and the other is a woman in her 50s. Routt County has now confirmed 102 positive cases of COVID-19 since March, and now seven deaths, once the cause of death from The Haven has been confirmed as related to COVID-19.

Routt County Commissioners voted to extend the current public health order for 60 days, to the end of September, with no changes to the ordinance except the date.

Commissioner Doug Monger voted against it even though he is in support of wearing masks. He says it should be a personal responsibility instead of regulated. Also that it is the same as the state order, and the communities in Routt County are different from each other.

Routt County Public Health Medical Officer Dr. Brian Harrington reminded commissioners that there have been positive cases throughout the county.

Also at Wednesday’s Public Health meeting, new interim Public Health Director Roberta Smith joined commissioners.

Smith replaces Kari Ladrow who is now the full-time Public Health Director for Moffat County.

Dr. Harrington said three people have been admitted to the hospital in Steamboat Springs in the past month. One was a resident of Moffat County who was admitted there and released, and then came to the hospital in Steamboat briefly. All three have been discharged.

Sgt. Courtland Folks is retiring from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Department. He served 19 years in uniform for both our country and the sheriff’s office. He was honored at a retirement ceremony Wednesday.

Work starts Friday on Highway 40 in Hayden to bring the curb ramps into compliance with Public Rights of Way Accessibility Guidelines. Some of the sidewalks, curbs and gutters will also be improved. It should last through late August.

Fill out your census form. You can do it at Starting later this week, census takers will be visiting neighborhoods, and going to homes where owners haven’t yet responded to the 2020 census. At least that’s being reported by the Meeker Police. So get that done and scratch it off your list.
