The man who caused part of I-70 and U.S. Highway 6 near Rifle to be closed for more than three hours Tuesday, has been charged. 38-year-old Justin Lopez Madrid is charged with a list of felonies and misdemeanors, including attempted murder, second-degree assault, and tampering with evidence. Madrid is being held at the Garfield County Jail.

Moffat and Routt County residents were very generous this year for Yampa Valley Gives Day. There were 3,161 donations made for a total of $913,836 dollars for the two counties. That money will benefit 58 nonprofits. Helen Beall with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation says it’s a 20 percent increase over last year. Across Colorado, over 157-thousand donations were made for Colorado Gives day, for more than $35 million dollars. To date, Yampa Valley Gives Day has raised over $3.2 million for nonprofits in Routt and Moffat counties.

Hayden has their Town Council meeting tonight. The adoption of the 2019 budget is on the agenda, as is a resolution levying general property taxes to help defray the costs of government for the Town of Hayden for the upcoming budget year. Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:30 at the Hayden Town Hall.

The Morningside chairlift fires up today at Steamboat Resort which will mean 80 percent of the terrain is open on the mountain, with 143 trails. And there will be three trails that will now have actual names so that ski patrollers know where to go if someone gets lost in the Morningside area. Those trails are Biscuits, Gravy, and Cheesy Grits.

Moffat County High School is sending 15 students to the DECA State Competition in Colorado Springs in February. They qualified Monday at districts, held at CNCC in Craig.

The 20th Annual KRAI Holiday Drive is underway. It’s today and tomorrow at Centennial Mall in Craig. One of the beneficiaries is Christmas for Kids which serves close to 110 families each year. Last year, 227 kids got about five Christmas presents each. Here’s Director Betsy Overton.

Overton says the KRAI Holiday Drive is the only fundraiser for the Christmas for Kids Program.

Stop by the Holiday Drive until 6 o’clock tonight, at Centennial Mall. We’ll be there from 6 to 6 again tomorrow, collecting toys, donations, non-perishable foods and more to give back to the community. I’ll be there from 10 to 2 today and tomorrow.

Moffat County wrestlers won their three-way meet this week, over Steamboat Springs and the Coal Ridge Titans.

In basketball, Meeker is hosting the White River Electric Cowboy Shootout for boys JV and C-teams today and tomorrow. The girls and boys varsity teams at Moffat County High School are headed to Glenwood Springs for the Demon Invitational. In Steamboat, seven teams from around the state are playing in the 20th Annual Basketball Shootout Tournament. Games start tonight and continue through Saturday.
