The Murphy Fire is burning about five miles northwest of Hayden. It’s called that because it started at the Murphy Ranch, when lightning hit Friday night. That’s near the rest stop on mile marker 101 on Highway 40. One home has been evacuated and others were on pre-evacuation. About 700 acres have burned. Nine fire engines from Oak Creek, North Routt, and Steamboat Springs fire protection districts are helping the West Routt firefighters. The Craig Rural Fire Protect District firefighters are also helping fight the fire with firefighters from Bureau of Land Management based out of Craig.

Another fire is burning along Routt County Road 53 south of Hayden. One home was evacuated, and another is on pre-evacuation. A tanker and some engines from the Murphy fire came over to protect the home. Other fire districts in Routt County are offering help. As of Sunday afternoon, that fire was at about 25 acres.

Also Friday night, lightning hit an above-ground fuel tank in Craig, and started a fire at the Moffat County Road and Bridge Shop. The fire threatened to spread to downtown Craig, but firefighters managed to put out the fire. One of the fuel tanks was destroyed.

Jared Polis stopped on a campaign tour in Meeker, Craig, and Steamboat Sunday. Polis is the democratic candidate running for Governor of Colorado.

Polis says he wants to understand the economy in Moffat County to make it a place where you can live and work, and be able to support your family.

He also spoke of the importance of rural broadband and internet and affordable health care in Western Colorado. Polis is running for governor against Republican candidate Walker Stapleton. Ballots will be mailed out in 42 days.

The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners is meeting at 8:30 Tuesday morning. One of the items to be discussed is a new position at Loudy-Simpson Park. Here’s Commissioner Ray Beck.

The park is about 400 acres owned by the county. The new job would be for a Grounds/Facility Maintenance Technician.

Drivers in Moffat and Routt Counties are eligible to buy discounted plug-in electric-gasoline hybrid or all-electric vehicles through Oct. 31. The Moffat County football team trounced the Summit Tigers Friday night. The score 40-7. The Bulldogs are supposed to be on the road to Steamboat this Friday night, but the stadium there isn’t ready yet, so that game will be in Craig.

The Moffat County High School golf team competes at home this Wednesday at the Yampa Valley Golf Course and then heads to Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat.

A 1995 Jaguar XJ-12 sedan is for sale in Aspen. It used to be owned by the late British singer Joe Cocker. The current owner has it listed in the Aspen Times newspaper for $36,000 but is hoping to get as much as $100,000.
