Memorial Regional Health in Craig is trying to get back to business as usual. The Craig Press reports that the local hospital is performing elective surgeries. Those surgeries continued locally. Steamboat’s hospital was not allowed to do elective surgeries and the hospital in Meeker chose not to. So some were done in Craig. The local hospital has also received some federal funding and grants designed to help rural hospitals. The hospital has also been trying to cut $850,000 in monthly expenses. The MRH CEO Andy Daniels told the Craig Press, “We’re in good shape right now.”

Grand Old West Days for the Memorial Day weekend have been canceled. There will be a Memorial Day Parade after the graduation parade this Saturday. It’s hosted by the Downtown Business Association. Pick up an entry form at KS Kreations or the Community Budget Center on Yampa Avenue in downtown Craig.

Also, the CHSAA High School Rodeo Finals would have been this week in Craig. The state Finals have been rescheduled for June 11-14, if the event meets the requirements of the state and Governor Polis. The State Finals for Cutting and Reined Cow Horse scheduled for June 14-16 in Center, Colo., have been postponed as well.

Rockfall mitigation is underway in Mount Harris Canyon on Hwy 40. That’s near the airport in Hayden. The draped wire mesh has to be repaired after recent rockfalls. Some reinforcing bars will also be put in to stabilize the rock. Expect 20-minute delays. The work will be done Monday through Friday, except during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. It should be finished by the week of June 8.

Yampa River State Park

State campgrounds in Routt County open up Tuesday. Routt County Commissioners have amended the Public Health Order that limits short term rentals and hotels through June 1 to allow camping at state facilities. Here’s Commissioner Tim Corrigan.

Kris Middledorf with Colorado Parks & Wildlife says it’s important to get the parks and state wildlife areas back open.

Campers will be encouraged to do single-family camping and not camp in groups. Those visiting Routt County are also being asked to not get gas, or do their grocery shopping here, but rather in the county from which they originate so as not to tax the local resources and to avoid possibly bringing the COVID-19 virus from another county into Routt County.

Also, the campgrounds at Steamboat Lake are already all reserved for the Memorial Day Weekend, but all other facilities there are closed until at least June 1. That includes the marina, the docks, and the cabins.

The Moffat County Courthouse has re-opened to the public for necessary transactions. But those who visit, still have to practice social distancing of six feet.

County Commissioners in Routt County will discuss on Friday, when the old Routt County Courthouse can re-open. They’re working on a plan to get some of the employees in first, to prepare for what happens when the public comes back. Here’s Public Works Director Ray DuBois.

Routt County Commissioners will hear the final proposal on how to make it work this Friday.

From Sweetwater County in Wyoming, the county courthouse is reopening today. Those visiting the courthouse in Green River still have to practice social distancing guidelines.

May has been proclaimed as National Military Appreciation Month. Moffat Count y Commissioners made the proclamation last week. The declaration encourages U.S. citizens to observe the month as a symbol of unity. It honors the current and former members of the U.S. Armed forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom. County commissioners are asking citizens to show their gratitude by displaying American flags and ribbons this month.
