A man from West Routt County was shot Saturday morning, after allegedly stealing a four-wheeler in Hayden. Hayden Police and Routt County sheriff’s responded to a burglary. A 21-year-old man had reportedly broken into a barn and driven off with the four-wheeler. A juvenile male apparently saw the man drive by on his family’s four-wheeler so he pulled out a 12-gauge shotgun in his truck that he used for hunting. He allegedly felt threatened so he shot the man in self-defense. That man was taken to the hospital. Police are investigating.

Moffat County school buses were a big help over the weekend. They shuttled people to the Balloon Festival in Steamboat, from the Meadows parking lot. About 24 balloons filled the skies over the Yampa Valley. Doug Lenberg was this year’s Balloon Meister.

Lenberg said the pilots loved flying over Bald Eagle Lake. He thanked the community and said they’re already looking forward to coming back to Steamboat. Sadly, at least two people were flying unauthorized drones over the balloons, from behind the Steamboat Christian Center. It’s against FAA rules. The police were called but the two drone pilots couldn’t be found.
