Wildfire smoke has been blowing through much of Northwest Colorado, and especially in Routt County. An Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke has been in effect for Routt and Jackson Counties.

An air quality monitor for is on the Routt County Courthouse. It reached 566 Thursday. That means health warnings for everyone to stay out of the smoke if you can. Smoke hasn’t been as bad in Moffat and Rio Blanco Counties. The sensor was just over 100 in Rangely Thursday.

The heavy smoke will continue until at least Sunday, when cold weather and some precipitation is expected. Jeremiah Zamora, the agency administrator for the U.S. Forest Service is assigned to the Middle Fork Fire. He says the fire is especially bad right now because of the impending cold front.

At last count, the Middle Fork Fire has burned over 11,000 acres. Moderate fire behavior will continue today with uphill runs and if it reaches the ridges, flames could be seen from down in the valley.
