Moffat County now has 246 cases of COVID-19 in the community, as of Thursday afternoon. That’s 59 more cases than were reported on Tuesday. 101 people in the Moffat County community actively have COVID-19 right now.
Moffat County continues to battle community spread of COVID-19. Jennifer Riley is the VP of Operations at Memorial Regional Health.
Riley says Memorial Regional Health has six patients in the COVID-19 unit as of Thursday, out of eight beds available. The COVID-specific beds are close to capacity. She also says it is getting difficult to find other hospitals to transfer the most critically ill patients of all kinds, if they have to a higher level of care, because those hospitals are getting full with COVID patients.
Regarding the 246 cases of COVID as reported Thursday night, Jennifer Riley at MRH says, “that number is going up almost hourly.”
In Routt County, there are 29 new cases in a day, with 472 total. That’s 137 in a week and 224 in two weeks. Routt County moves into the state’s Red/Severe Risk Level at 5 p.m. today.
A student at Steamboat Springs Middle School has tested positive, as has a staff member. 24 students and eight staff members are in quarantine. Casey’s Pond assisted living has four new cases of COVID for a total of 15 residents now in isolation, and one employee.
Routt County Medical Officer Dr. Brian Harrington says everyone in both counties should follow the Commitments of Containment to stay safe and keep COVID out of both counties.
The Moffat County School District is providing meals for anyone in the community under the age of 18. Nutrition Services is offering to help with one breakfast and one lunch per child per day for families in quarantine. You can pick up five days worth of meals at once or arrange to have them picked up. The number to call is 970-824-2160.
The 2021 Cowboy Downhill at Steamboat Resort has been canceled for the first time in the event’s 46-year history. It would have been in January. The resort writes that it’s due to the postponement of the National Western Stock Show due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Then there’s football. The Moffat County Bulldogs have their big 2A Western League playoff game at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The matchup in the state playoffs is against Resurrection Christian and the game is being played at Windsor High School. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. The game will be aired on 93.7/102.3 KRAI with pre-game starting at 12:45. You can also listen on the livestream feed at KRAI.com
