Someone abandoned nine puppies near Rifle, at Garfield County Road 244 Friday. A couple camping in the area found them. A local veterinarian thinks they were only 24 hours old. The puppies were taken to the Divide Creek Animal Shelter and only two have survived. Now they are at Colorado Animal Rescue. Officials want to find who did it because they face fines and they could go to jail. Call Garfield County Dispatch at 970-625-8095 if you know who might have done this.

A car was reported stolen Tuesday morning in Craig. It was found across the state line in Wyoming. It’s under investigation.

Drop off those ballots. They won’t be counted if they’re mailed and not there by Tuesday. Ballot drop off boxes are at the east entrance of the Moffat County Courthouse in Craig, also the Clark Store, Hayden Town Hall, Oak Creek Town Hall, Yampa Town Hall, and the Routt County Courthouse in Steamboat.

As of Thursday in Moffat County, 2,369 voters had cast their ballots. In the breakdown…  1,490 Moffat County Republicans have voted, 302 Moffat County Democrats, and 556 unaffiliated voters. Those numbers are from Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams.

That bear break-in on Fish Creek Falls Road in Steamboat Springs Tuesday morning, was the car of a local minister Tim Selby.

Yes, it was a bear, and actually he didn’t break in, since the car was unlocked. Tim says there wasn’t any food in the car either. Kris Middledorf with Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the bears won’t start hibernating until late this month, or early December, so keep your car doors locked. The interior of the Selby’s Subaru Outback was destroyed, and the car is totaled.

Grand Futures Prevention Coalition has a new Youth Development Coordinator in Moffat County. Jill Hunstad has joined the team. She has already been working with the school resource officers, and helped with Red Ribbon Week at the Boys & Girls Club.

In Maybell, students at the elementary school had the inaugural Maybell School Elk Bugling and Camo Contest.

That is an elk bugle call. The contest was sponsored by the Maybell General Store and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office. Haigen Harrison won grand champion in both competitions.

A Day of the Dead celebration is tonight at the library in Steamboat. “Dia de los Muertos in the ‘Boat” is an opportunity to share culture and build community according to the organizers of the festivities. Day of the Dead is part of the Mexican culture, and celebrated around the world. Altars are built to honor the dead by leaving offerings in the form of skull candies and traditional food to sustain souls on the post-mortem journey. It’s from 5-9 p.m. in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat.
