A Craig man was arrested Wednesday night, after rolling a car on Highway 40, just west of Milner earlier in the day. 36-year-old Justin Meisner was allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine. He faces nine criminal charges, and he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

In a second accident Wednesday on Highway 40, two people from Saratoga, Wyoming, died. They were a husband and wife. 73-year-old Betty Shelton, and 75-year-old Raymond Allen, who was a pastor in Saratoga. The accident was in Grand County near Snow Mountain Ranch.

The Board of Trustees from Moffat County Libraries have rejected a plan that would have outsourced library management to an East Coast firm. The local county libraries are in Dinosaur, Maybell and Craig. A ballot measure in November was defeated to raise money to run the libraries. The Craig Press reports that staff has made drastic cutbacks to library hours, staff, and programming to stay afloat.

Steamboat Police are looking for this man, who is a person of interest in a sexual assault at the Old Town Hot Springs.


Steamboat Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted at least five different women and teenage girls at the Old Town Hot Springs in late March. It happened in the hot pools. Here’s Sergeant Jeff Wilson.

Call 911, or the non-emergency number for Steamboat Police at 970-879-1144. Sergeant Wilson thinks it was an isolated incident. But police also think the man is still in the Steamboat area.

The second suspect in a locker room robbery at Old Town Hot Springs a couple of weeks ago has been arrested. David Lee Spears was arrested in Prowers County near Lamar, by Colorado State Patrol on May 4. He is being held there on local charges of several traffic offenses and criminal impersonation. Several other agencies have warrant holds for Spears after he finishes with those current charges, and any possible jail time. One of those warrants is from Routt County. His alleged accomplice, Tasha Lynn Stapleton, has officially been charged in Routt County. She is out on bond, and now has a court date of Tuesday, June 18 in Routt County. Both have 11 charges each against them, including five counts of identity theft, for using someone’s stolen credit cards at Walmart in Steamboat and in Craig.

The Moffat County chapter of the Future Farmers of America has their fundraising dinner and auction tonight. It’s at the high school and it starts at 5:30 p.m.

The Craig Middle School Drama Club presents their spring play at 7 p.m. tonight in the auditorium of the school. The play is called “Typecast.”

Moffat County High School honored its student athletes this week. For the men, the Lewis “Dude” Dent Memorial Award goes to Cale Scranton. The Outstanding Female Athlete is Tiffany Hildebrandt.

Chloe Veilleux of Soroco High School is state champion in the Class 2A 3,200-meter run. Veilleux competes again today at the state meet in Lakewood.

Colorado Northwestern Community College has signed two new soccer players for the men’s team. Axel Aldana comes from Crete, Nebraska. Malique Zuniga is from Fort Morgan.

The Craig Parks & Recreation youth football program is getting a $3,000 grant from the Denver Bronco Charities program. It will help replace overused and outdated equipment.
