An 18-month-old child has died. The baby was found with her mother and a sister. It started with a call to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office about a suspicious vehicle near County Road 54, which isn’t heavily traveled in the winter. The car was stuck in the snow and a search began. Kaylee Messerly was found with her two young girls, ages 18 and 35 months, about a mile from the vehicle. The 18-month-old had died. Kaylee and her daughter were taken to an ambulance which took them to Memorial Regional Health. The incident is under investigation.
The UK variant strain of COVID-19 has been found in two cases in Moffat County, both in the same household. Here’s Moffat County Public Health Medical Officer Dr. Allan Reishus.

As of Thursday, there are nine active cases of COVID in Moffat County with 807 total positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Moffat County Girls Basketball team lost a tough one to Delta last night, in the 3A State Basketball Championships. The final score was 63-44.
Down the road, the Steamboat Sailors boys team had a big win over Golden and will advance to the Elite Eight on Monday, when they play Montrose. Both teams are the only undefeated 4A teams in the state.
Wrestlers from Northwest Colorado are competing in the State Wrestling Tournament in Pueblo. 2A and 3A divisions compete today. From Hayden (2A), it’s Wyatt Murphy and Dylan Zimmerman. From Soroco (2A), it’s Kody Logan. Larhae Whaley competed Thursday in the girls division and lost in the semifinals. Steamboat (3A) has Ivan Reynolds and Cole Moon. Those in Pueblo from Moffat County (3A) are sophomore Kaden Hixon and senior Blake Juergens, along with junior Pepper Rhyne, and freshman Blake Hill. Meeker (2A) has Ty Goedert, Trae Kennedy, Connor Blunt, Kelton Turner, and Brandon and Colby Clatterbaugh.
