A man from Craig has been arrested on felony drug charges. 31-year-old Steven Irwin Lord, Jr., faces charges of unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing, or sale of a schedule I/II controlled substance. The Craig Press reports that the arrest affidavit says Lord was a passenger in a car that was pulled over last week. A sheriff’s deputy knew about Lord and called in the drug sniffing dogs. During a search, police found meth and evidence of selling or preparing to sell a controlled substance. Lord has served jail time before on drug related charges. Lord will be in Moffat County court on Dec. 31.

A man in Grand Junction was found unresponsive in his Mesa County jail cell and has died. 34-year-old Jeffrey Beagley was accused of killing a 9-year-old girl by poisoning her with chloroform as he attempted to sexually assault her. He was facing multiple charges. The Mesa County Sheriff’s office says the death does not appear to be suspicious.

A 41-year-old Rifle man faces felony charges after he allegedly beat someone up at a house party in Rifle last weekend. Also in Rifle, police chased a car after the driver passed another car over a solid double yellow line. The 21-year-old driver pulled into a Kum and Go after a high speed chase. The Post Independent reports he told the officer he didn’t want to get pulled over because he didn’t have insurance. The officer said it would have been a lesser charge than felony eluding at which point he started to cry.

A 21-year-old man allegedly stole his cousin’s jeep while she was traveling and her husband was in the shower. The husband filed a report and told police the Jeep was probably in Utah, since the suspect had been messaging his “baby mama.” As predicted, Utah State Patrol found the jeep along I-70, about 150 miles into Utah. The suspect was arrested on Christmas Eve and faces charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft, which is a felony.

Campers can book a campsite online as of Jan. 1, to Colorado’s state parks. The new camping reservation system with Colorado Parks and Wildlife allows you to book a site up to six months in advance. It’s a way to reserve a campsite, cabin, yurt, picnic area, or other facilities in any of Colorado’s 41 state parks. The town of Breckenridge has canceled fireworks for New Year’s Eve. City officials are concerned about fire safety and the effects on the forest and wildlife. The torchlight parade will still happen.
