A representative from the department of interior is in Northwest Colorado to tour the Trapper mine today. Janice Schneider, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s assistant secretary for land and minerals management took a tour of Twentymile mine in Routt County yesterday. During her visit to the mine today Schneider plans to meet with representatives from Tri-State generation and Moffat County. Trapper Mine is currently going through an environmental assessment that is being preformed by the Office of Surface Mining and Reclamation. The deadline to complete the assessment is April 30th, but Senator Michael Bennet and Representative Scott Tipton from Colorado have both advocated for the completion of the assessment before that date.
