The Colorado gubernatorial race has been called a win for the incumbent John Hickenlooper. With 93% of the vote counted, Hickenlooper is 22,000 votes ahead of Republican challenger Bob Beauprez. Hickenlooper came under fire during his first term for his lack of decision making, and his positions on guns, energy, health care and rural issues. He had the financial and political backing of Democratic players such as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Had Hickenlooper lost, he would have been the first to lose a bid for a second term as Colorado governor in over half a century. If the final tally has Beauprez within half of a percent of Hickenlooper, an automatic recount will be triggered.
