Black ice is suspected to have contributed to a head collision near Milner around 7:30 this morning. The incident began when the driver of a eastbound pickup started to pass another vehicle on the 3 lane section of Highway 40, about 2 miles west of Milner, and lost traction sending the pickup into oncoming traffic, striking a car head on. The driver of the pickup was not seriously injured. The driver of the car suffered a possible broken leg and other injures and was transported to the Yampa Valley Medical Center. His condition is not known. Two of three dogs in the car were killed in the crash. Although no citations have been issued at this time, that may change following the treatment of the injured man and the wrap up of the investigation.
