Grand Jury Asked to Investigate Sheriff Incident

District Attorney 14th14th Judicial District Attorney Brett Barkey has asked the District’s Grand Jury to investigate the September 15th, incident in Tabernash where Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin shot and wounded a suspect. Schroetlin says the suspect attacked him with a knife. Senate Bill 15-219 requires the District Attorney to announce when an officer-involved shooting is referred to a grand jury. However, that doesn’t mean the public will be kept up on the proceedings. Under Colorado law grand jury proceedings are secret. The announcement was made yesterday afternoon.
