A man from Granby died early Sunday morning when he crashed his motorcycle on US Highway 34 about 9 miles east of US Highway 40. Thirty-three year old Jonathan Mathern was found unresponsive Sunday morning and was pronounced dead on scene. Mathern appeared to be the only occupant. Details surrounding the crash are still under investigation, but it appears as though Mathern drove his motorcycle off the left side of the highway after failing to negotiate a curve sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. The vehicle overturned multiple times across a dirt pull-out area. Mathern was ejected during the crash and came to rest in some large rocks. The motorcycle continued into Lake Granby. It appears as though Mathern was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but neither alcohol nor drugs are being investigated at this time. The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind drivers to always buckle up and to always drive sober.
