Governor John Hickenlooper won’t push to repeal the death penalty in the new session of the state Legislature. He said yesterday that the topic won’t be coming up in his State of the State speech today. The issue has become a hot button issue during Hickenlooper’s time in office. He indefinitely suspended the execution of convicted killer Nathan Dunlap. While Hickenlooper won’t push the issue, he did suggest that it could come to the forefront before he leaves office. Hickenlooper will deliver the Annual State of the State Address this morning at 11. The Colorado General Assembly got underway yesterday. The Joint Budget Committee held its first meeting yesterday afternoon to discuss potential bills looking for state funding.
