Gardner Votes for Rural Domestic Violence Legislation

gardnerColorado Congressman Cory Gardner and Texas Congressman Pete Gallego successfully passed an amendment to the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act that would increase funding for rural domestic violence and child abuse prevention programs. The amendment passed by a voice vote.  The amendment is seen as an important step to protect women and children from domestic violence and abuse…something that seems to be more of a problem in rural areas.  Gardner says “Often times, rural communities lack the necessary resources for violence prevention and rehabilitation services.”  He says “By increasing funding for the Office on Violence Against Women, we are giving women and children in rural areas the tools they need during times of crisis, as well as helping to rebuild their lives.”  Pictured: Cory Gardner
