Yesterday, Congressmen Cory Gardner and Scott Tipton joined an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 4810, the Veterans Access to Care Act. This legislation, which both cosponsored, allows the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to contract with non-VA medical facilities to ensure that all veterans receive the care they need in a timely fashion. In addition, the legislation eliminates bonuses and performance awards for all VA employees for the next two years. Monday, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced the findings of an internal audit that showed over 57,000 veterans are currently waiting more than 90 days to get their first appointment, while another 64,000 may have never received an appointment at all despite enrolling and requesting one.
