Gardner Introduces Legislation to Help Students With Loans

gardnerYesterday, Congressman Cory Gardner (CO-04) introduced legislation to allow America’s students and graduates to deduct up to $5,000 of interest payments on qualified student loans from their taxes annually. This is an increase from the $2,500 allowed under current tax code. Increasing this deduction will help ease the financial burden that many students and graduates face as they work to find employment and build a strong foundation for their financial future.  Gardner points out that students are taking out loans in record amounts to help cover the costs of higher education, and due to a struggling economy, many students are graduating with fewer opportunities than ever before. He says by increasing the cap on tax deductions for interest payments, those with student loan debt will be able to work towards a more prosperous financial future.  Pictured: Cory Gardner
