Following North Korea’s reported nuclear tests over the weekend, Colorado U.S. Senator Cory Gardner, who chairs the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific and International Cyber Security, is calling for unprecedented steps to curtail the regime. Gardner says the test is the clearest sign yet that North Korea is ready and willing to start a nuclear war that would lead to unimaginable destruction and loss of life on the Korean Peninsula. Gardner is calling for North Korea to be kicked out of the United Nations, and for the UN Security Council to enact a full economic embargo on the country. Gardner says any steps need to include a robust military deterrent, including imposing a US-led international naval blockade of North Korea in order to ensure a full enforcement of United Nations actions.
