A freak accident on Highway 64 between Meeker and Rangely sent a Texas woman to the hospital with serious injuries yesterday afternoon. According to a press release, an airborne sledge hammer came crashing through the windshield of Larry and Pamela Neill’s car, striking Pamela in the head. She was taken to Rangely District Hospital, and then flown to Saint Mary’s in Grand Junction. The Neill’s are from Weatherford, Texas. The press release says it isn’t clear where the hammer came from, but Corporal Bagley of the Colorado State Patrol said this morning he believes it came off of another vehicle. The incident is still under investigation. If you have information related to the accident, the State Patrol asks you to give them a call at 824-6501.
