A former Craig doctor has been convicted of over prescribing pain medication to his patients. Doctor Joel Miller, who owned and operated High Country Medical, was arrested in August 2013, following a 34-count federal indictment. The charges also included money laundering and fraud. On Monday, a jury convicted Miller of six counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance without a legitimate medical purpose, one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance without a legitimate medical purpose resulting in death, and one count of providing false information on his Drug Enforcement Administration registration application. The “resulting in death” charge is the first conviction of its kind in Colorado. Miller will be sentenced November 16th. He faces 20 years to life in prison.
