Recent snow melt and rainfall has caused the Elk River at County road 42 to exceed bank full levels in some locations. Mild temperatures will result in continued rises through the remainder of this week. Areas around the Elk River Bridge are beginning to flood. The National Weather Service advises the following precautionary and preparedness actions:
- Do not drive through flooded areas as two feet of water is enough to float most vehicles.
- Caution is urged when walking near waterways.
- Avoid flooded areas and unstable riverbanks.
At 1 am Monday the stage was 7.3 feet. Bank full stage is 6.5 feet. Flood stage is 7.5 feet. The river is expected to hold steady around 7.0 feet for the next several days.
