The First Day Hike at Elkhead Reservoir will begin tomorrow morning at 10 at the reservoirs east swim beach. “First Day Hikes” was created Colorado Parks and Wildlife, to offer everyone an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors at a state park close to home. They call it “a great way to welcome the New Year with friends and family”. The Elkhead hike, a 1 to 3 mile trek is just one of 30 guided First Day Hikes that the CPW will hold tomorrow. In addition to the quiet beauty of nature in winter and spectacular views, participants may see wildlife such as eagles, elk and deer on the trails near Elkhead Reservoir. Hikers are encouraged to bring snowshoes, warm boots or crosscountry skis and prepare for very cold conditions. There is also a photo contest being held in conjunction with the hikes where first prize is a free Colorado annual parks pass. You’ll find information about the photo contest by following this link.
