An overnight fire early Sunday destroyed a home in Steamboat at 1855 Fish Creek Falls Road. Neighbors called Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue to report the fire in the home that had also ignited trees next to the residence. West Routt Fire Protection District firefighters were also called to the scene. Upon arriving, fire crews first attacked the flames in the trees to keep the fire from spreading to nearby residences. They then focused their efforts to the home, which was fully engulfed by the fire. It was quickly determined that the blaze was being fueled by natural gas. Once the flames had been extinguished to a safe point, fire crews were able to attack the gas fire and shut the gas off where it entered the house then the gas line feeding the home. Fire crews were on scene for several hours. The structure is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No fire fighters or civilians were injured during the fire.
