A hay filled barn about 2 miles west of Steamboat was destroyed by fire Saturday night. When Steamboat fire fighters arrived at the scene at 38235 County Road 33, the barn was fully engulfed in flames and animals that were in the barn had been evacuated. West Routt fire fighters also responded to the blaze which took about two hours to contain. Due to the large amount of hay in the barn the remnants of the fire are expected to smolder for several days. The homeowner will monitor the site during that time. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The barn and contents were a total loss. Pictured: Scenes from the fire. courtesy of the Steamboat Springs Fire Department. Click to enlarge.
