Yesterday afternoon, Eagle River Fire Protection District (ERFPD) responded to a report of a structure fire in on Main Street in Minturn. Three engines responded and encountered a small fire smoldering in the crawl space of a trailer home. Foam was used to suppress the flames, which were mostly confined to underneath the trailer. The fire appears to have started when insulation fell into an area where welding was taking place. Local residents instituted a “bucket brigade” from the river until firefighters were able to arrive from Avon, which helped to keep the fire from spreading. Minturn firefighters were already responding to a report of a gas leak at the north end of town. The trailer was being remodeled, so it was empty at the time of the fire.
