Four people are dead after a private plane crash over the weekend in Garfield County. According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the aircraft was heading from Fort Collins to Moab, Utah Friday night when the crash occurred. The plane’s last reported location was about 9 miles north of Rifle, near Baxter Peak. The plane was carrying a family of four from Fort Collins, who were identified as 47-year-old Jeff Makepeace, his wife 45-year-old Jennifer Makepeace and their children, Addison and Benjamin who were both ten years old. Due to heavy low hanging clouds in the area when the accident occurred, an air search was delayed. Crews were able to locate a debris field Saturday Morning. A crew that was sent by helicopter to the crash site determined that no one had survived the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident. In a statement about the crash, family members expressed their remorse over the deaths of the Makepeace’s and thanked first responders for braving difficult conditions to reach the crash scene.
