The Winter Valley Fire, which ignited Thursday south of Elk Springs, continued to grow over the weekend, increasing from 6,400 acres to 7,800 acres. Rain and cool temperatures helped crew increase containment of the blaze over the weekend to 70%. Due to the fires rapid expansion Thursday, residents, campers and hunters near the Deerlodge area were evacuated. Those evacuations were lifted Friday afternoon. With cool temperatures and less wind in the forecast early this week, crews should continue to increase containment of the blaze.
