A former Eagle County employee has been ordered to spend two years in a prison-based community corrections facility after admitting to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from taxpayers. 55-year-old Brenda Wright was sentenced Monday for theft and embezzlement of public property, both felonies. She has already paid almost $107,000 in restitution, as well as $10,000 in audit fees. Wright voluntarily contacted the Eagle Police Department about the crime and turned herself in. The money came from a 2 percent tax on vendors who rent vehicles such as cars, trucks and construction equipment. Wright said she was skimming from that fund.
