To address people not wearing seat belts across the state, the Colorado Department of Transportation is continuing to promote their “Beware of the Beltless” campaign. Numbers show 15% of people in Colorado do not wear a seat belt while in a vehicle, and more than half of the passengers that died in accidents last year were not wearing seat belts. Not wearing your seat belt not only puts you at risk, but people traveling with you are 40% more likely to be hurt or killed during an accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that Colorado could save 63 lives and prevent countless injuries a year by increasing seat belt use to 100 percent.
