UPDATE: Local Fires 100% Contained

The Deep Creek Fire is now 100% contained. The lightning started fire ignited earlier this month, 9 miles northeast of Hayden. Crews will continue to the monitor the 4,000 acre blaze and will conduct mop up operations where needed. During a drone flight Tuesday, crews found what may be a coal seam which had caught fire.  Firefighters discovered areas of coal while digging fire lines near the fire, which officials believe may be from an old coal mine in the area. It’s unknown if the discovery is actually a coal seam, or just old piles of coal left behind at the mine. County Roads 52 and 56 near the Deep Creek Fire remain open, but the public should continue to use caution as firefighter traffic may remain heavy.  Containment of the Pine Tree Fire near Maybell, has also increased significantly this week with that fire now also 100% contained. Crews were able this week to limit the growth of the 4,700 acre Pine Tree fire to only 300 acres. To view a copy of the drone video, click here. Video courtesy of BLM Colorado Fire.
