Craig Residents To Vote On Tax Increase

Craig residents will be asked to approve a tax increase during the upcoming November election. The Craig City council approved a ballot question at their meeting Tuesday that would increase the sales tax in Craig by 1.75%. The city faces a budget deficit of $1.2 million a year for the next two years, but according to Craig Mayor John Ponikvar, if passed, the new tax would raise an additional $2.1 million annually. Ponikvar believes that for the increase to pass, the city will have to do a better job of explaining the benefits to residents.
