A 51-year-old Craig man, who had a warrant out for his arrest through the Craig Police Department, was arrested Wednesday in the Denver area. Melvin Newton was wanted for a bond violation concerning dangerous drugs. An initial press release from the Craig Police department, (pictured to above), said Newton was also wanted on a bond violation concerning a protection order, but according to a representative with the Craig Police Department, a judge squashed that warrant, turning it into a summons, after the release had been sent out. Newton has been arrested multiple times in the last couple years in both Routt and Moffat County, on various drug charges, including possession and distribution of methamphetamine.
